If your tank water heater is under about 8 to 10 years old and the problem is a part like a thermostat, heating element, thermocouple or gas valve, repair usually wins. If the tank itself is leaking, or the heater is past 10 to 12 years old, replacement is usually the better choice, because a leaking tank can’t be repaired. Replacement estimates are free, and if you had a service call or diagnostic visit first, we credit those fees toward your new water heater.
